Vetmedix Case Sharing丨Application of High-Energy Laser Therapy in Treating Prostatic Enlargement

2025-07-22

Introduction

Prostatic enlargement is one of the common diseases in elderly male dogs. Without timely treatment, it can lead to a series of complications, severely affecting the pet's quality of life and health. High-energy laser therapy, as a novel physical treatment method, has been widely applied in veterinary medicine in recent years. Through high-energy-density laser irradiation, it promotes tissue repair, alleviates pain, and improves blood circulation.

This report documents the clinical application of the VETMEDIX veterinary laser device in post-operative rehabilitation for canine prostatic enlargement, demonstrating how high-energy laser therapy brings comfort to pets.

05 Case Summary

Short-Term Recovery:

Dr. Chen Yongpai, President of Tong'an Ruipai Pet Hospital, successfully performed a scrotal resection on Wang Cai, followed by targeted high-energy laser therapy for the prostate. The laser treatment significantly reduced the prostate's enlargement and rapidly alleviated local swelling. More encouragingly, Wang Cai's distressing symptoms—such as dysuria, pain, and restlessness—were greatly relieved, and his overall health continued to improve.

Long-Term Follow-Up:

During post-treatment follow-ups, Wang Cai's urinary frequency and volume gradually returned to normal levels. The prostate had shrunk to nearly the standard size of a healthy dog, completely resolving the pre-treatment issue of urethral compression due to prostatic enlargement. Redness and swelling in the surrounding skin significantly subsided, with skin temperature and color returning to normal. His mental state also improved noticeably, with increased activity in daily eating and social interactions.

06 Conclusion

In this case, Vetmedix employed high-energy laser photobiomodulation (PBM) to provide non-invasive treatment for small animals, effectively reducing inflammation associated with prostatic enlargement. By inhibiting inflammatory factors and modulating local immune responses, the laser significantly decreased redness, swelling, and pain around the affected area. Additionally, high-energy laser therapy accelerated wound healing, promoting granulation tissue growth and epithelial cell regeneration, thereby shortening recovery time.
